Reflections on the Pandemic Year

A brief outdoor interfaith ceremony
Saturday, March 13 at 12 noon:
Gather safely on the west lawn of Penn Hall near the Sentinel sculpture to join Chaplain Elizabeth Eckman and student speakers for a brief outdoor interfaith ceremony to reflect on the year and a moment of silence to honor those who have passed. Following the program:

The week of Saturday, March 13 through Friday, March 19:
If you are on campus, stop by the Sentinel sculpture (between Penn Hall and Glatfelter Hall) to participate in a week-long visual project of personal expression to mark the past year. Ribbon will be available for you to write a brief message, thought, prayer, or reflection to honor a loved one or acknowledge a loss, a memory, a thankfulness, or a personal reflection that is important for you to express. Then, tie your ribbon to the cording near the Sentinel to join other campus community reflections. If you are in the remote cohort, send your message to us – We will create and tie your ribbon for you. Following the week, the ribbons will be displayed in the Center for Religious & Spiritual Life and later donated to Special Collections.

Any time you are ready:
Participate in Musselman Library’s project: Documenting COVID-19 at Gettysburg College. Help create and preserve the historical record of this unique time in College history. Visit the Documenting COVID-19 at Gettysburg College web page to begin sharing your unique Gettysburg student experiences with Special Collections and College Archives.

Reflections on the Pandemic Year
This past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has effected and challenged Gettysburg College students, campus members, and loved ones in extraordinarily complex ways. These projects are opportunities for our campus community to mark the year, and continue to process and acknowledge our experiences.
