US Army Blues w/ College Jazz Ensemble
The Gettysburg College Jazz Ensemble is pairing up with the US Army Blues for a live performance on Friday, February 22 at 8:00 p.m. in the Majestic Theater. The concert is free and open to the public.
Directed by Sunderman Prof. Paul Carr, the Gettysburg College Jazz Ensemble has traveled more than 10,000 miles in recent years and performed 30 concerts in Europe. The ensemble has performed with well-known artists, including Paquito D’Rivera, the Boston Brass, Denis DiBlasio, Lew Soloff, Graham Breedlove, Lewis Nash, Carmen Bradford, Hector Martignon, and Delfeayo Marsalis. The concert will feature several styles of jazz, including swing, Latin, fusion, bop, and the American Songbook.
The US Army Blues has served as musical ambassadors for numerous students at schools and colleges across the United States, often performing some of their favorite pieces from the Library Jazz archives. The band has shared the stage with renowned jazz composers, such as Dave Brubeck, Doc Severinsen, Stanley Turrentine, Slide Hampton, Dr. Billy Taylor, Kevin Mahogany, and Terell Stafford.
The musicians of the US Army Blues have performed at the White House, the Vice President’s residence, the State Department, and for high-level military protocol and ceremonial events in the Washington metropolitan area.
