Art History Majors After Gettysburg

A Panel Talk with Gettysburg College Alum Emily Francisco and Emily Mendonca

Emily Mendonca is a Museum Educator for Art Around the Corner, a multiple-visit outreach program for D.C. Public schools at The National Gallery of Art. In this role she teaches, develops curriculum, and aims to infuse the power of fun into learning at all levels. Prior to the National Gallery, she worked as an intern and contractor in public programs, visitor services, and interpretation at the Smithsonian, The Phillips Collection, and Corcoran Gallery of Art. She earned a BA in Art History from Gettysburg College, an MA in Art History from the George Washington University, and is a past participant of the Project Zero Classroom summer institute at Harvard. Outside of the gallery, she likes to experiment with watercolor, read mysteries, and explore hidden gems in her home state of Maryland.

Emily Ann Francisco is the Curatorial Assistant in the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Art, where she works primarily on permanent collection projects and installations. Prior to her current role, she was the Collection Management Assistant in the Gallery’s Department of Photographs, where she cataloged over 1000 photographs from the Corcoran Collection. Emily earned her B.A. in Art History and English with a Writing Concentration from Gettysburg in 2014, and she completed dual M.A. degrees in Art History and Museum Studies from Syracuse University in 2017.
